If you feel as though the job search has become a constant slog, you may want to change your methods. Rather than putting in hours each day poring over the classifieds, either online or in print, some different methods may help you search more effectively and make better use of your time.

  • Use a recruiter. Want to make your search significantly easier? Use someone whose job literally consists of helping you find one. When you work with a recruiter, you’ve got someone in your corner who has training in the best and most effective ways to help others get jobs. Look for someone who specializes in your chosen industry, and talk to them about what sort of job you’re looking for and what your experience/background is in. Recruiters also have a line on jobs and employers that don’t necessarily get listed to the general public, giving you an inside track.
  • Embrace handheld technology. As of 2011, 77 percent of job seekers used mobile apps to look for jobs; in 2014, that number had risen to 89 percent. More employers have realized this and have slowly but surely begun to make their websites mobile-friendly. Considering so many of us have our phones on (and our faces glued to them) constantly, it makes sense to use a handheld device for job searching as well. You can do your searching any time and keep your information (resume, cover letters) handy as convenient attachments.
  • Make mobile work for you. Not only have the numbers risen for job searchers, 93 percent of recruiters themselves now look at social media profiles before hiring. Make sure your profile is both updated and accurate. Next, utilize such sites as Indeed and Monster to easily search for jobs on your phone — they’re mobile-friendly and allow you to keep information on file. Next, use LinkedIn for its job searching advantages. On LinkedIn, you can easily keep your profile updated and work on your own social branding, posting interesting articles and observations to your profile for potential employers to see. You can also expand and stay on top of your connections.

With mobile devices, job searching truly can fit in the palm of your hand. Use them and work with a qualified recruiter to make your job search yield more results with less wasted effort. Reach out to our medical recruiting team at Medical Professionals today!
